Terms of Membership & Accepted Behavior
Please read this carefully - It's not just the usual yada yada
1. NO PROFANITY
This applies to images an abbreviations as well. While the forums has automatic word censoring, we do miss the occasional instance by members with clever manipulation of spelling. If you spot such an instance, inform a staff member with the link to the offending post. Pseudo-profanity is an acceptable alternative, although it is strongly recommended you try to keep strong emotive language out of your posts.
2. NO RACIST OR OTHERWISE HATEFUL MESSAGES
Subject matter of a racist/stereotypical tone or topics that will incite hateful responses will not be tolerated.
3. NO SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIAL
The forums will be accessed by both members and the general public (guests), and some of these may include young children. Please be considerate and keep the post contents clean.
4. NO ADVERTISEMENT SPAMMING
If it is evident that a member's primary intention on the Alpha Company Forums is to advertise another website/referals, they will be banned immediately. This goes for posts, PM's, signatures, avatars, etc. Posts/Topics will be deleted. Spamming also includes referral links, such as Free Ipods, Free PSP, etc. Also, we allow you to link your favorite website and/or personal website in your signature, but you must keep the font color and size to the default size.
5. NO DUPLICATE ACCOUNTS
If we suspect members holding multiple accounts, the accounts will be checked and all involved parties contacted. If it is the case that those accounts are being operated by one person, all the accounts will be deleted.
6. OBEY THE AVATAR & SIGNATURE RULES
Avatar:
- File size cannot be more than 40KB (40,000 bytes), and must be no larger than 100x100 pixels.
Signatures:
- Maximum of 3 lines of text.
- Maximum of 1 banner/image (on separate line, you cannot combine).
This means you can have a maximum of 4 lines (3 text + 1 image).
Empty line still counts as a line.
Each line must be short enough that it doesn't wrap.
Maximum width for banner/image = 400 pixels.
Maximum height for banner/image = 100 pixels.
Maximum file size for banner/image = 40KB (40,000 bytes).
You can right-click an image and hit "properties" to figure out width, height, and size. Don't cry if you violate the rules & we delete your sig and/or get warnings.
7. LANGUAGES
If you are going to post in a language other than English, please provide a translation as a courtesy to other Alpha Company Forums members who cannot understand that language.
8. NO POST/TOPIC SPAMMING
Do not post the same topic and/or post in multiple Forums. We realize sometimes this happens within the same topic due to technical issues but other than that this is strictly prohibited.
9. GENERAL ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR
If it is evident that your general behavior on the Alpha Company Forums is to be disruptive in nature, then you will be warned and/or banned. This includes (but not limited to) constant instigation of arguments among/between other members, persistent flaming of others, deliberate "mouse trap" ploys with links like RickRolling, etc.
10. THE STAFF IS TO BE RESPECTED
The Alpha Company Forums Staff Members are here to keep the Forums civil, and encourage respectful and supportive communication. They are not here to hassle you, nor are they targeting you personally. Under no circumstances are you allowed to edit a Staff Member’s comments, even when they are replying directly in a message that you may have originated. Any editing of a Staff Member’s comments will result in a suspension or termination of your account.
11. NO DOUBLE POSTING
If you've already posted a message, and no other users have posted one after you, do not post again! This is called 'Double Posting'. Simply edit your current post, and add on to it. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it soon enough. However, if there are no posts in a thread for two weeks, you are allowed to 'Bump' the thread, thus overruling the No Double Posting rule. Senior staff are exempt from this rule due to their responsibilities requiring them to make updates on official content.
12. POST MUST BE READABLE
If you like to write your posts in the style of a text message (no capitalization or punctuation) your posts will probably be deleted. If your spelling is atrocious, resulting in posts that are hard to read, your posts will probably be deleted. If you continue to post in violation of this rule, your will be warned, and your account may be suspended. Oh, and your posts will probably be deleted.
13. COLORED TEXT IS RESERVED FOR THE STAFF
To help with the readability of the Forums, please do not use colored text - it is reserved for use by the Alpha Company Staff Forums Staff Members.
14. NO OVERT RELIGIOUS REFERENCES
While we respect that your religious preferences may be highly important to you, these forums are not the place for them. Please do not include religious iconography or messages in your signatures, or in your avatars, or your account may be suspended.
15. READ SUBFORUM STICKIES BEFORE POSTING
Each subforum has it own specific rules and guidelines, so before you post in a section for the first time, please read through these threads (they can always be found at the top of the threads list, hence the name "Stickies"). Failure to comply with these specific guidelines may result in warnings being issued. Repeated infractions may lead to suspension or banning.
16. NO (NEW) MEMBERS ARE TO BE UNDER 13 YEARS OF AGE
Due to the steady decline in the quality of these forums as a result of forums staff relaxing an original entry requirement, after 8 Jan 2010, no new members under the age of 13 will be permitted to join these forums. Under-13 members who joined prior to this date are permitted to continue their participation, but will be monitored closely.
Additionally, as this is a discussions forums for various community projects, you should register only if you are genuinely interested in making a long-term commitment in consistent participation. The administrators will periodically identify and remove user accounts that are being used merely for subscriptions or 'lurking'. New user accounts will also be removed if no posts are made four months after registration.
